Annual Picnic 2023
Tuesday, July 25, 2023
Another great turnout for our annual picnic, catered by Anoka’s Casa Rio. It began with clear skies and a small but dedicated crew of board members to set up. Birdie once again created stunning and creative raffle baskets for kids and adults. Over 50 people attended. The skies opened up to a rain shower. The July 4th boat parade winners announced. The club gifted John Vilandre with an all season jacket ( for the man of all seasons) with loon insignia for his 14 years as secretary extraordinaire. New members were welcomed and folks gathered in their named sections of the lake for a moment to connect. Larry gave us the sad ending of the baby looms this year 4 baby chicks met their fate to eagles most likely 7 adults remain. Juanita encouraged everyone to attend the annual general meeting of LGID to vote. Everyone was invited to start using the new website. A good time was had by all.

Our presenter will be Carroll Henderson, retired founder and director of the DNR Nongame Wildlife Program. He will be joined by Lori Naumann who will be returning to provide information about the Nongame Wildlife Program and LOONS. The RESOURCES button above will lead you to an interesting news article about the work of Carroll Henderson with the DNR Nongame Wildlife Program.

A pair of bald eagles appears to be building a nest on the island. At least, I think it is a new nest. I have not seen it before and I first saw it this week. (I may have missed it last summer if it was there, but I am not sure it was there last summer.)
