Youth Fishing Event needs our help
The event is at Lake George Regional Park boat launch. Entry to the event is free compliments of our parks. If there is a gate attendant, just let them know you are there for our event and they will let you in. Registration for the kids starts at 7:30 am. I like to have a meeting with the boat guides before the event starts so please be at the launch and ready for the meeting no later than 7:15. When you arrive at the launch, I will have you check in with me and I will grab your name, a phone number and the number of people you can take out fishing. Please be flexible on this number as I’m guessing boats will be full. Depending on the number of boats I have, we may need to swap out people half way through the event. Between 8:00-8:15, we will assign people to boats, have an opening ceremony and then go fishing. Between 11:30 and 12:00, we will have everyone return to the dock, get their fish weighed and pictures taken, and then go down to the pavilion for lunch. We plan on the typical hamburger/hot dog lunch again this year cooked by the Oak Grove Fire Dept. Shortly after lunch, we will have the awards ceremony. Categories include biggest fish in several categories. We plan on being completely done between 1:00 and 1:30.
If you are new to the event, here are some boat guide helpful tips. Don’t bring your best fishing gear as things have a tendency to get beat up a little. Please have enough gear to fish as most kids won’t bring anything. Lake George is full of bass, northern and panfish so anything that works for these species is best to use. Vado’s Bait will also have some live bait available. If you have some smaller life jackets, please bring these as well. It is nice to have a small cooler to hold water and snacks. Please be flexible with what you fish for and don’t hesitate to just go for a boat ride if your kids lose interest and don’t want to fish anymore. It is also great if you take some pictures and share those pictures with the adults that bring the kids! Once you get back to the launch, we will try to have people available to assist with the weigh in and backing your trailer into the water so you don’t even have to get out of your boat.
Once you are done, please join us for lunch at pavilion #5. Once again, without your help, this event would not take place. I have no expectations of your boat catching bunches of monster fish. I just want the children to have a great time whatever happens. If you have any questions, please contact me. I will be off the grid at the BWCA for 5 days so if you don’t hear from me, that is probably where I’m at. I will get back to you before the event! See you soon,
