Help Wanted: Lake George Conservation Club Needs a New Secretary

While it has been my pleasure to serve as secretary for fourteen years, the time has come for someone else to step forward to fill that position.

My current term ends with the May election, and I will not be  a candidate for re-election. I intend to remain an active member of the Conservation Club, and will gladly help the transition to a new secretary.

The Lake George Conservation Club Secretary is an elected member of the Club's Board of Directors. As such, the secretary has a voice in planning the future direction of this association of friends and neighbors that has been in existence since 1938!

The most immediate task for the new secretary will be to maintain the minutes of our monthly meetings. That will begin with the June 8 meeting which I will not be able to attend.

I have chosen to report the minutes as part of a newsletter. However, that is not a requirement for a future secretary; a simple report on each meeting's proceedings will suffice.
Other tasks include  tracking changes in Club membership along with the Treasurer who collects annual dues.

The Club has a database of names, addresses, telephone numbers, emails, etc. The same database is used for keeping records for the Lake George Improvement District. I will continue working with the LGID in that capacity; therefore a new Club secretary will not need to take on that responsibility  immediately upon taking office.

Basic familiarity with a word-processing program and access to the internet would be a minimum requirement. During the transition, I can also lend a hand at printing and mailing if the new secretary needs help in that area.

Efforts are underway by other Board Members to establish a web page for the Conservation Club. That may also offer an opportunity for the secretary to communicate with the membership.

Anyone who wishes to explore  filling the role of secretary is encouraged to contact me via email at vilandre@umn.edu
